A Day on the Water...
In the Parks...
Or on the Trails
A haven for outdoor adventurers,
Hernando County is the nature lovers' playground. Cool down at Weeki
Wachee Springs Water Park. One of Florida's first magnitude springs,
Weeki Wachee is "The City of Live Mermaids" and the worlds
only underwater spring theater. The adjoining Buccaneer Bay brings
summer alive with waterslides, music and children's play pools. The
Withlacoochee River and the Chassahowitzka River are great spots
for canoeing. Take on the 6,000-acre tract of the Weeki Wachee Preserve
in a day of hiking, biking, canoeing or kayaking. This Preserve includes
miles of the Weeki Wachee River, portions of the Mud River, and seven
deep-water rock quarry lakes for fresh and saltwater fishing. |
A day at the park is always a great outlet for family fun. Hernando
County offers an impressive park system, with more than 20 developed
parks on 340 acres and 945 acres of open space. The various, well-maintained
county parks support a wide array of recreational activities, from
passive casual strolling to active sports such as baseball, soccer,
skateboarding, boating, and swimming. When planning your next outing,
consider stopping by one of these local parks. From Anderson Snow
Park, you can link up to the regional bicycle network at the Suncoast
Bike Trail. The trail rides alongside the Suncoast Parkway and was
designed as part of the "Rails to Trails" program. Hernando County's only skate park offers many different ramps and rails. Many beautiful golf courses are available including public, semi-private and private courses.
